Our Ancient Madurai!
The city is referred by various names including "Madurai", "Koodal", "Malligai Maanagar", "Naanmadakoodal" and "Thirualavai". It is the third largest city in Tamil Nadu. It was an important center for Tamil development. Madurai's cultural heritage goes back 2,500 years, and the city has been an important commercial center and has conducted trade as far as Rome and Greece since as early as 550 BCE. The city is popularly known as the “Temple City”. It is also known as the city of Jasmine , city of festivals and sleepless city.

Our Celebrations!
The poo-pallakku (flower decorated palanquin) of God Meenakshi.The palki gets embellished with the freshness, fragrance and the hues of a variety of flowers.
Puttu Thiruvizha’ was celebrated at Puttuthoppu off Vaigai river as a part of the Avani Moola festival of Sri Meenakshi Sundarewarar Temple.
Mulaipari (Sprouting or Germination of Nine Grains or Navadhanyam in a basket or clay mud pots) is a very important ritual which takes place at almost every village Goddess celebration.
In the Float Festival of Madurai, the deities are transported from the Meenakshi Temple to the Mariamman Teppakulam Lake in golden palanquins accompanied by musicians and devotees.
A grand ‘golu’ has been planned at the Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple here as part of the Navarathri celebrations. A huge number of devotees visiting the golu.
The lighting of one lakh clay lamps on the premises marked the ‘Karthigai Deepam’ celebration at Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple.

The Students from XI, S.B.Vishaka Nandini, M. Shenbagam, K. Kamali, P. Dhivya Priya and S.G. Yogalakshmi, is the only one from Tamil Nadu to have won the Third prize in the NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest.
Selvi R. Indrarekha of Std VIII secured first place(team event) in the National Level Carrom championship held at Akola in the month of March 2015.
V. Mahendran (Visually Challenged) of Madurai came first scoring 6.5 points out of 7 and won the Independence Cup 2008 in the second State-level chess tournament for visually challenged held here on Sunday.
The Kalaimamani is an award in Tamil Nadu state, India. These awards are given by the Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram. Our Tamil Isai Sangam,will receive the shield for the best cultural forum.
